About: This is my 6th year of rowing. Before I started rowing, I played club soccer. I had played soccer since I was 5 and had always imagined myself playing for my high school. That changed after my mom saw a flier at my school for a Learn-to-Row camp with a local club. She signed me up and I have been rowing ever since. This comes as a surprise to many people (until they see my “gracefulness” when we play ultimate frisbee), but I also took dance classes for 16 years, from age 2.5 through senior year of high school. I mostly did tap and ballet in high school but also did jazz and acrobatics before that. Wednesdays in high school were my dance days as they were the day I had off of rowing. This past summer I studied abroad in Seville, Spain, for 6 weeks on a UF Spanish program. I have always enjoyed learning Spanish and I hope to one day become fluent. *currently trying to figure out what on Earth I want to do with my life*
Career: I started rowing when I was a rising high school freshman. I rowed my junior and senior years at Row Huntsville and before that rowed for Rocket City Rowing Club. My biggest accomplishments during my high school rowing career were winning the 2017 Southeast Youth Regionals and placing 9th in the country at Youth Nationals as bow seat in the Lightweight 2x (which we named the “McDouble”). I also raced in a Youth V4+ at the Head of the Charles in 2015, competed at Youth Nats in 2016, and made it to semifinals in a 1x at Club Nationals 2016. Most notable accomplishments with UF Crew are that I rowed in the V8+ for my freshman/frosh year at UF; 1st place at Hooch 2018 in the 1V8+, LW4+, and Mixed V8+; raced in the WLW4+ at the Head of the Charles 2018; came in 3rd at SIRA and John Hunter 2018 in the V8+; and placed 1st at FIRA in Ltw4+. A personal accomplishment is making the UF top 10 2k records list in Spring 2018.
Favorite Memory about Crew: Everybody who knows me knows about the “McDouble” from high school that I am very proud of (see career for more info). My favorite memory from crew at UF so far would have to be Hooch 2018. Not only was it so cool to come home with three gold medals and the Team Points trophy, but it was truly just a fun weekend of racing and team bonding. A close second for favorite UF Crew memories is Head of the Charles 2018 #fightweight4 forever. There isn’t a place for a worst crew memory, but I’d like to include it here. There have been some other bad memories that come close, but I think a low point of my rowing career was my novice year fall (9th grade) when I erged a 36+ minute 6k test (that’s a 3:00+ split).
